Happy new year! I hope you have all had a smooth and productive start to the year.
This month, CCAT has ramped up its programme to implement the recommendations from the National Future Transport Summit. Government engagement has begun in earnest, with senior-level meetings held with Commonwealth and state government executives, to communicate the outcomes of the Summit and plot a path torward implementation. I have been pleased by the response to the recommendations so far. Conversations have centred around alignment of the recommendations with existing and potential government programmes, and the desire for industry and government to work together to ensure future reforms are fit for purpose.
I’ve also had industry meetings this month where stakeholders have stated that the recommendations are already proving useful in their own work. From the inclusion of messaging from the recommendations in strategies, to the re-prioritisation of transport technologies in new work programmes due to the impact of the Summit’s sector support, it’s wonderful to see the recommendations already having an influence on decision-making.
This year, along with continuing our focus on the implementation of the Summit’s recommendations, we will be rolling out our events programme, sharing our knowledge at conferences and through our communications channels, and working with our stakeholders to find new opportunities for collaboration and partnerships. I welcome your ideas and contributions to ensure CCAT has another bumper year!

Brisbane stakeholder event: Advanced vehicles and social legitimacy
25 March 2026, 4:30pm-6:30pm (Brisbane)
We are pleased to invite you to attend an upcoming event focused on social legitimacy, a key theme of the National Future Transport Summit. Featuring expert insights and recent research outcomes, the session will explore how different communities experience advanced vehicle technologies, and how governments, industry and researchers can engage meaningfully through public education, demonstrations and inclusive dialogue.
The event is a great opportunity to network with stakeholders across transport, infrastructure, disability and community sectors, supporting more trusted and socially legitimate pathways for Australia’s transport future.
CCAT is pleased to welcome the Infrastructure Sustainability Council as a member. The Infrastructure Sustainability Council is a member-based, purpose-led organisation working in Australia and Aotearoa New Zealand to enable sustainability outcomes in infrastructure.

Suburban Rail Loop's automated trains to be built in Victoria
Victoria’s first fleet of automated trains will be designed and built in Melbourne as part of the Suburban Rail Loop East project, marking the first time automated trains are manufactured in Australia. The contract supports local jobs, advanced rail systems and renewable energy use, positioning Victoria as a future hub for high-tech rail manufacturing.
The UK Government has released a new road safety strategy aimed at reducing deaths and serious injuries across Great Britain by 2035. The strategy includes measures to support the use of ADAS and better use of data and technology, alongside safer infrastructure and stronger enforcement.
Automated vehicles could reduce road injuries, study finds
New modelling published in JAMA Surgery suggests that even modest adoption of fully automated vehicles could prevent tens of thousands of road traffic injuries over the next decade in the United States. Higher adoption rates and stronger safety performance could avoid more than one million injuries, highlighting the potential safety impact of automation.
Eve Air Mobility has successfully completed the first hover flight of its full-scale uncrewed eVTOL prototype at a test facility in Brazil, marking a major milestone toward certification and entry into service. The success of this first flight validates key systems and begins a test program that will expand into full wingborne flights through 2026 as Eve works with global regulators toward planned operations in 2027.
World's largest driverless train contract awarded in Denmark
A Siemens–Stadler consortium has been selected to deliver fully automated GoA4 trains for Denmark’s national rail network, representing the world’s largest driverless train contract. The project supports expanded automation and increased capacity across Copenhagen’s suburban rail system over the coming decades.
We continue to engage with experts and stakeholders interested in facilitating the transition to connected and automated transport in Australia and New Zealand.
